Introduction

Neonatal care is a critical pillar of public health, focusing on the survival, growth, and development of newborns during the first 28 days of life. Neonatal Care in Public Health Training Course is designed to equip healthcare professionals, community health workers, and maternal-child health practitioners with evidence-based knowledge and practical skills to reduce neonatal mortality and improve newborn outcomes. It integrates high-impact interventions, essential newborn care practices, and WHO-aligned public health strategies to strengthen health systems, especially in low-resource and high-burden settings.

With rising global attention on newborn survival, SDG 3 targets, maternal and child health equity, and universal health coverage (UHC), this course emphasizes a multidisciplinary approach. Participants will learn how to implement essential newborn care, neonatal resuscitation, infection prevention, early breastfeeding initiation, kangaroo mother care (KMC), and community-based newborn interventions. The course also strengthens data-driven decision-making, surveillance systems, and quality improvement strategies to ensure sustainable neonatal health outcomes.
